State Forest, popular for recreation, research from WVU crowd. Stream bottom supports a narrow zone of old growth hemlock.;Gentle slope above a small stream. Boulders are scattered over deep soils. Community is a deciduous forest with large red oak and tulip poplar, mixed with younger hickory, birch, and red maple. Red oak is also abundant in the short shrub layer, possibly indicating lapse in deer pressure. Downfall from plot has created a large canopy gap which may facilitate oak regeneration.
